Long Melford has been settled for many centuries and is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The village name is derived from the long, three-mile stretch of single road through the centre and the Mill ford crossing, a tributary of the River Stour.
Showcasing a remarkable collection of buildings dating from the 15th century onwards, you can see Tudor beams rub shoulders with Georgian facades and Victorian terraces within the village, which also boasts two stately homes; Kentwell Hall and Melford Hall.
The stunning scenery around the village was also the subject of paintings by celebrated artists such as John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough, who lived nearby.
With excellent tourist amenities and free parking, Long Melford is the perfect destination for a memorable, relaxing break.
